10 FACTS ABOUT THE HIMALAYAN MOUNTAINS



  1. The himalayan has over 100 peaks.
  2. K2 is the second highest mountains in the world is 8,611 metres
  3. K2 got it’s name because it was so remote it had not been given a local name.
  4. this said it is rare for animals to survive above 550 metres /1,800 feet/ as the air gets  thinner and the temperatures are too low here.
  5. many people also rely on the tourism industry for income.
  6. in sherpa villages in the himalayas ,yak dung is made into patties and dired.
  7. the people living here depend on agriculture and also the yak.
  8. the extreme climate found in the himalayas does limit the areas where settlements can be built.
  9. better communication and transportation have improved the lifestyle of many people in the himalayas .
  10. the himalayas are on the continent of asia,south of the tibetan plateau and extending from west to east.
